ABOUT MAHOGANY SOULZ

Mahogany Soulz is a collective that comes together with smooth soulful ballads, iconic foot-stomping hit songs, and original music.

Mahogany Soulz has residencies in London venues and regularly performs at private events, including festivals, weddings, and corporate functions.

For smaller venues, you can have Mahogany Soul experience as a Duo, Trio or a 4-piece. Depending on your tastes, they can perform in different guises with different band members, with Kocoa at the helm.

Kocoa Brown - Lead Vocals

Kocoa Brown is the front woman for Mahogany Soulz. Known for her dynamic up close and personal presence on stage or in the audience, Kocoa uses these skills as she hosts regular jam sessions encouraging performers to perform their music.

Her passion for music and community has always influenced her drive to work creatively with others, so as a lover of jam sessions, Kocoa has gained much experience, playing with highly respected musicians, which has led to work fronting jazz and soul bands as well as hip-hop crews where she continues to develop her love of mixing and blending music genres.

Ray Wright - Bass

Ray Wright worked with Kocoa Brown before the inception of Mahogany Soulz, and then officially joined them in 2018. He has been playing the instrument professionally since 1994 and has performed with many bands since that time around the UK and abroad.

His recording sessions are quite extensive too, playing a variety of genres: pop, indie, jazzfunk, rock, reggae, hip-hop, soul, house, drum ‘n’ bass, blues and funk. Ray has also recorded and co-produced / co-written and released tracks as the duo, “Blacq and Wright”, and the trio “Beauty and the Beast”. His music journey has seen him go into the remix field working with DefJam and Sony, notably the 2005 Earth, Wind & Fire single “All in the way”, and a few artists in the House Music Fraternity. Ray was also part of the Sugababes first band along with Mark Hanna until the release of their first album.

On the charity word side, Ray Wright worked with Warchild and The Prince’s Trust, raising money for disadvantaged children in the UK and around the world.

Mischa Huijsmans - Lead Guitarist

Mischa plays guitar and sings backing vocals for Mahogany Soulz. He moved to London in 2013 and quickly fell into the South London jam scene. The vibrant community where musicians from all walks of live come together let him cultivate his passion for music. He met Kocoa, John and Ray at local jams and joined the band in 2018.

During the pandemic he developed a documentary together with Kocoa and Bej (Mahogany Soulz sound engineer), exploring the nature of live performance and the ways in which musicians and audiences could connect in isolation.

He is passionate about live music and working with performers and audience alike to create an unforgettable experience.

Aleks Moody - Keyboard

Aleks Moody is a Keyboard player based in South London. Playing professionally since 2018, his influences include Stevie Wonder, Booker T Jones, Larry Dunn and Chester Thompson. Aleks is in high demand on the South London music circuit. Along with gigging and recording, his other side projects include expanding and maintaining his collection of vintage synthesisers, hammond organs and electric pianos.
